South Boston, formerly Boyd's Ferry, is a town in Halifax County, Virginia. The population was 8,142 at the 2010 census, down from 8,491 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous town in Halifax County.

Virginia Cooperative Extension - Halifax Branch
The Halifax County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is the local connection to Virginia's land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, VCE helps the people of Halifax County improve their lives. VCE provides education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.
