Halifax County is now using a new emergency notification system. Those signed up prior to July 1, 2015 on the former system will need to register again. This can be done through email by clicking on the "sign up" link above or by calling 434-476-3300 X3330 to have the Emergency Services Department enter this information for you.

The Halifax County Board of Supervisors is asking that anyone interested in serving on any commission, board or committee to contact their supervisor or complete a Citizen Interest Form indicating your area of interest. VDOT PUBLIC ROAD INFORMATION
Public roads in the County of Halifax are maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation. For up-to-date road conditions, including closures, visit click HEREor call 511 from any phone.
Call the Virginia Department of Transportation for complaints and concerns regarding road conditions, ditch maintenance, and grass cutting. TO REPORT A ROAD PROBLEM CALL 1-800-FORROAD. (1-800-367-7623) Click HERE for more information.
ATTENTION: WATER / SEWER CUSTOMERS
The Halifax County Service Authority is now located at 2529 Houghton Avenue (Near DMV) in South Boston. The phone number for that location is 434-575-4240. Payments on accounts should be made at the new location effective August 1, 2011.

Halifax County History
"In February of 1752 the General Assembly of Virginia passed an Act ordering that the County of Lunenburg be divided into two counties, creating Halifax County, the first of several counties to be taken out of Lunenburg. It was named for George Montague Dunk, Second Earl of Halifax, First Lord of the Board of Trade."
In 1766, the General Assemby divided Halifax County into two counties and Pittsylvania County was formed.
